At the African Chess Lounge, we deepened our understanding of the game. We held a focused session on the origins of chess principles and explored timeless ideas like piece activity, center control, and development. These concepts guided generations of players and created a practical foundation that set the perfect tone for the action-packed Rapid Tournament that followed.
Tournament Highlights
🔥 Congratulations to our top finishers:
🥇 Kent Lenting – 1st Place (3.0 points, Mod. Median: 8.0)
🥈 Zong Han He – 2nd Place (3.0 points, Mod. Median: 7.5)
🥉 Callan Manning – 3rd Place (3.0 points, Mod. Median: 7.0)
Multiple players finished with the same score, but it was Lenting’s superior tiebreaks that sealed the win. Callan Manning now leads the club rating chart with a rating of 1060. This is a great reflection of his strong form and dedication.
Welcoming New Members
We extend a big welcome to new members Diego Lakay and Frikkie Mattheus. They made confident debuts and quickly made their presence known on the board. We’re thrilled to have them in the ACL community!
