Uplifting communities through chess
ACL Chess Club
ACL FIDE ACADEMY
Why join ACL Chess Club?
Whether you join the club to play chess for fun at the Club Level (almost all of our team players started out that way), or take it to the next level and join the Team to participate in competitions, there are many benefits of playing chess. Members of our club have enjoyed making new friends, increased their self-confidence, and developed invaluable abilities to focus, think creatively, and problem solve. They’ve demonstrated self-reliance, personal pride, good sportsmanship, endurance, and improved their academic skills. Club coaches provide individual and group instruction.
Welcome to the Chess Club
Games - Learning - Fun and Friends
We invite you to discover the Game of Chess. Learn the game and improve your skills through casual play and team tournaments. Chess Club meetings run from Monday to Friday 10am-5pm and Sat 10am-3pm . We have also provided fun workshop activities in between which you can find on the events page. All levels of experience are welcome.
Very Strong Club
To gain experience playing against strong competition, the club participates in provincial, regional and national competitions. We are the Western Cape Champions for 2015 and 2016 and there are many individual and team success stories. The club holds local tournaments throughout the year, so you can take part in that. While traveling for competitions, the players and their families have the opportunity to experience the diversity of this country. We’ve gone to many museums, attractions and important cultural and historic places in cities all across our nation and we would like you to be part of that.
Parents, come and learn with the kids… our parent players group grows every year!
Club members will receive emails regarding the details of upcoming events. If you would like more information, please contact us

Students are encouraged to demonstrate sportsmanship and to strive for success in the classroom as well as over the chessboard.
Emphasis on reflection and cognitive development through mental exercise

All equipment, including sets and boards, provided for instruction

SPONSORS & PARTNERS
Our primary goal at ACL is to teach the game of chess to as many people as possible and raise awareness of the benefits of chess in life.
Having taught the game we want to develop and spread it to all the different social classes through partnering with the right partners to help us reach everyone.
We see chess as a tool for life and also view it as a sprouting industry as we reach more and more people, we would like to empower the different communities to develop chess clubs which in turn uplift more and provide employment to the youth
